Fairy Chimney Hotel in Göreme ll

One of the most inspiring place I’ve ever visited is also one of the most alien. To to the Turkish, it’s simply the region of Kapadokya; the English speaking world it’s know as the Cappadocia Fairy Chimneys; and to nerds, it’s that place where Luke Skywalker’s home planet was filmed. The region of Cappadocia in central Turkey has one of the most unique landscapes in the world. Thanks to a volcanic eruption 3 million years ago, Cappadocia is covered in strange peaks of soft rock. The rock is so soft, in fact, that ancient people dug their homes right into these peaks, which became whimsically known as fairy chimneys. Today people continue to live in many of these fairy chimneys, and travelers to Cappadocia can stay in a fairy chimney of their own. I can personally attest to the enveloping coziness of one’s very own little room of stone, a perfect place for fairies and curious visitors alike.
